In this article we talk about capacitive probes; so if you want to know more, we invite you to read on!
Capacitive probes: what they are
An insulated metal probe mounted in a metal container forms an electrical capacitor with the wall whose capacity increases as the level of the fluid contained inside it increases. For capacitive measurements, a fluid with constant permittivity is therefore necessary. The simple and resistant structure (rod or rope sensor) allows you to measure the level of liquids, solids, granular, conductive and non-conductive fluids. The capacitive level sensor represents a proven and economical solution for level measurement, and can be used for both liquids and solids.
How a capacitive level sensor works
The level measurement of a capacitive sensor is based on the variation of the electrical capacity of a capacitor. In practice, the level probe and the tank wall form a capacitor whose electrical capacity varies depending on the quantity of product contained in the tank. In the simplest sense, capacitors store electrostatic energy in an electric field. The capacity of the capacitor to store this energy (a measure known as “capacity”) increases as the probe is covered by the product. Capacitive probes, here are our products:
- 440 Continuous level transmitter, capacitive, 2-wire, 1/2″ connection
The 440 series transmitter allows continuous measurement of the level of powders and liquids contained in tanks or silos.
- 451 Continuous level transmitter, high temperature, capacitive, 3-wire (electronic head)
The 451 series is the (electronic) head to be combined with the 453 series (mechanical) probe to create a complete continuous level transmitter for water inside high temperature and high pressure containers such as industrial boilers or tanks in general.
- 445 Continuous level transmitter, capacitive, 2-wire, 1″ connection for diesel and oil
The 445 series transmitter allows continuous measurement of the level of powders and liquids contained in tanks or silos, particularly suitable for diesel.
- 429 Digital display for 45x transmitters with 2 intervention thresholds
The 429 series display, combined with a 45x series transmitter, is the ideal instrument where it is necessary to digitally display the product level measurement. 2 freely programmable relay thresholds are available.
- 452 Continuous high temperature level transmitter with buttons, capacitive, 3 wires (head - electronics)
The 452 series is the (electronic) head to be combined with the 453 series (mechanical) probe.
- 453 Probe for continuous high temperature level transmitter, 1/2″ connection
The 453 series probe is the mechanical part to be combined with the 451 or 452 series electronics. If you want to know our products click here.
